went and tested a tt system today using a fluke 1652- for the ze all i was getting were the error 5 and >2000 readings- the client had just one earth rod . putting an extra 2 rods 8m away and then an extra 2 6m away only brought the error 5 message up but scrolling on the down button had a reading of 9.05ohms, a good reading i know BUT why do i have to scroll down to get a reading and is this accessible? cheers anyone

Hi, welcome to the forum.
When you get an Error 5 (excessive noise) warning when making EFLI or RCD measurements with a Fluke 165x series MFT the tester stores the reading, this can be displayed by pressing the down arrow key as you have found, however the tester is warning you that this value is degraded by noise and it's accuracy can't be relied on. You should ensure all noise sources (appliances) are isolated on your board and any sub-boards, if you are working on site ensure any welders and large motors are isolated and locked off where possible as these are primary high noise sources. Sometimes you just have to 'bite the bullet' and retest at another time when the noise on the network is lower, e.g. you have garage down the road welding car parts, testing in the evening after normal garage hours or during their dinner hour should allow good measurements to be made.

markiesparkie- many thanks that makes sense as the board was totally isolated but it is a farm site and there would of been a multitude of noise sources - i will keep testing until im totally satisfied- many thanks

Welcome along.:icon6:

Unusual to get an Err5 message an a Fluke when testing Ze as it should be on the high current setting with the installation isolated and MEC disconnected.

Get it quite often when no-trip testing of Zs though.

You would treat it as a TT installation.
