I have just bought a neff 2.9kw single oven; it replaces an oven that was hard wired on to a dedicated oven circuit on a 32a mcb with 6mm cable. My electrician says that he will just wire the new oven onto the same system. I am no expert, but thought that the mcb is too big for this oven , would it not be prudent to reduce the size of the mcb? thanks.

that 32A MCB is sized to protect the 6mm cable. nothing to do with the rating of the oven. nothing to stop you downrating it though. if you are concerned, then you could put it on a 13A FCU.

beaten by the monkey.

I would be reluctant to use a switch fuse on a 3 Kw load (you can but often see them burnt out ) its a dedicated circuit feeding a fixed load, use a 16 A mcb type b job done.

What do manufacturers instructions say regarding OCPD? These will have to be followed.

Not some of the manufactures instructions i've read you wouldn't!! lol!! Many of these instructions are based on European standards and wiring methods, rather than on your BS7671. Some, like the recently posted ''humidistat'' are just an outright joke!! lol!!
