Was told by a fellow sparks today that the latest edition says metal clad distribution boards must be used in domestic installations is this true

Using metalclad units wont stop fires, consumer units dont spontaneously combust, perhaps more time spent publicising the cause in the first the real cause is as we probably suspect is poor workmanship when fitting the plastic cu,s in the first place, how many old 3036,s went on fire ? and how many "upgrades" did

virtually anything will combust with enough heat.

though i thought plastic CU's had to be of a "self extinguishing" material , and most decent quality ones already are.

so all this talk about the mandatory requirement to fit metalclad is just more of the same bollox talk by the organisations that can make a fast buck out it.

Like Dillb said what do the manufacturers know, lets wait and see shall we? all this speculation is "doin me ead in" to coin a phrase from one of the youngsters at work

There is a lot of misguided information in this thread.

Steel CU's will not be compulsory.

Steel does "burn".

I dare not go on, but, please check your facts and do some research before posting, as this sort of scaremongering is not good for the industry.
