Hi Guys,

Anyone know when will SMA be releasing the new Sunny Beam monitor in the UK ? it look so much better than the current display, wonder if its worth advicing a customer to wait.....

Thanks in advance

I think more installers should advise endusers to download the FREE Sunny Explorer instead from the SMA website and save your ÂŁ 150 TBH. All you need is a bluetooth enable'd computer and away you go !

The functionality is greater and the displays are more or less the same, once the fad was worn off

However I am interested in what the new unit looks like and whats its additional features are I must admit

I think the SunnyBeam is a good idea as a backup if you have SunnyExplorer... saves turning the computer on anyways!

If you are using SunnyExplorer I'd recommend using a Bluetooth Class1 device, like a Belkin one which sells on amazon

Belkin Bluetooth USB plus EDR Adapter, 100m range, v2.1: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

It'll get a more reliable and further connection than those Nano Class2 devices.

If you just want a real-time generation, then you can use one of those free energy meters from the electricity supplies and put the clamp on the inverter feed (either going into gen meter or coming out of), it's not as accurate as the SunnyBeam or SunnyExplorer but it's i) Free and ii) Permanently on and only require batteries.

My preference is all three... but I'm hoping the fad doesn't wear off!

This depends on whether the inverter uses the bluetooth piggy back card or has bluetooth built in (such as the HF models).

The piggy back card doesn't have a real time clock that runs overnight (when the inverter is dormant) so needs a time sync every day (from the sunny beam, sunny explorer or the sunny webbox) when the inverter gets enough power from the panels to wake up. If it doesn't it will not store the detailed data for that day (just the running total). Moreover whereas the sunny beam and webbox will automatically send the time sync every day, sunny explorer (if I remember correctly), only send the time sync when it first starts. So unless you can ensure the enduser will restart sunny explorer each and every day, it will lose some of the historic statistics.

The newer models with bluetooth built in, do have a realtime clock which runs overnight powered from the ac feed and so don't have this limitation.

I can't find anything about a new sunny beam monitor on the SMA website - where did you hear there was a new one.

Its called a Sunny View, When we went to the Solar event in October SMA were promoting it, I actually have a data sheet and held it in my hand ! But since then nothing.....saying that I emailed one of the uk employees last week but as yet havent heard from them .........have they retreated to Germany ....?

Please see photo evidence of the existance of above said devise - Its very strange that SMA have halted its promotion ! [ElectriciansForums.net] New sunny beam display

Hi Guys - Resurrecting an old post !

Has anyone heard of the new Sunny View from SMA, please see post above showing picture. I want to know when it will be released......I have asked all my suppilers but they draw blanks, SMA ignore my emails ...I'm please I got a datasheet otherwise I my be doubting myself !!!

Or has anyone used an alternative to the Sunny Beam display that connects nicely to SMA inverters. I just hate the analogue cr4py display on the existing monitor and want to offer a better 'Digital' display.

Better still a device that tracks energy usage against generated ?

Anyone heard anything about the much anticipated new SMA Bluetooth display (called sunny view) (well I think I must be the only person in the uk waiting ...). Segen informed me that they have plenty of stocks of the old cr4py sunny beam, which I guess implies that they want to sell the old stock first .....! I have a customer whom I said a new display is coming (per I was told and handed a data sheet for from SMA over 8 mths ago) so would like to give them some more info on pricing availability etc ...
