new tools. which 1s???

Hi all,

just a quick question, iv just nearing the end of my first year, and iv started doin odd jobs and doin work for local electrical business,
so trying to build my hand tools up, screwdrivers/pliers ect... iv had a few cheap 1 that dont rly last, so lookin at upgrading so they last me longer,

so any ideas of makes would be great,
thank you in advance :)

CK or bahco for sidecutters, CK, wera or wiha for drivers, is my choice. however wickes do a range rebranded as wickes own. pretty good for the money.

Have you ever heard of a G Cramp??

he's from pembroke. you'll have him thinking of sexual encounters with sheep. :24:

bahco make some good drivers as well. personally i prefer wera. (got some wiha and there good)

i tend to use the large 180mm wiha snips but my ck snips are good as well.

the ck snips are good as they have the holes in them for 3.5 and 4mm pins (conduit+backbox pins)

knipex waterpump pliers anyday of the week, the alligator ones are the better ones to go for unless you want to try with the button release (cobra)

pliers, dont really use.

a 3.5 and 4mm tap are mandatory as you will come across dodgy threads in backboxes etc.

i tend to use irwin tape measures but the other usually use fiskers etc. one of the lads uses morrisons own brand

i use my feet. never cut a cable too short yet.

I got a full set of CK gear about 8 or 9 years back. Still using the screwdrivers daily ! Hammer, hacksaw, set square are all good too.
The croppers and snips bit the dust years ago, the pliers are dodgy at best and the gland pliers are wobbly now.
I would buy CK drivers again in an instant but not the mechanical tools as they have not lasted and were not great to begin with.
I am using Knipex cutters, Bahco croppers, Wiha and CK drivers now and am finding a happy mix of tools at last.

Best tool I bought recently was the large NWS cable shear? I know their small cutters get a lot of stick, but these are amazing. Large cables up to 35mm a breeze, but even cut and stripped 120mm stranded single core cables! Great for wringing flex, no matter how small. Designed for bigger stuff but a great all rounder

cheers guys. much help.
looks like Knipex, Bahco, Wiha and CK everyone is going for
have to look into them and see what if any deals are about.

thanks again
