new tools. which 1s???

best thing to do is actually handle the tools, find a tool place near you that actually has them out of shelfs that you can get your hands on. find what feels comfortable in your hands.

then the one you pick will probably be the one you nearly always use for the rest of your career

CK or bahco for sidecutters, CK, wera or wiha for drivers, is my choice. however wickes do a range rebranded as wickes own. pretty good for the money.

bought a wickes wood chisel set back end of last year, must say ... decent price and are standing the everyday test of time...very impressed for a diy wholesaler.

I was merely gently pointing-out to him that there are twenty six letters in our alphabet and one of them is "G"
Hi all,

just a quick question, iv just nearing the end of my first year, and iv started doin odd jobs and doin work for local electrical business,
so trying to build my hand tools up, screwdrivers/pliers ect... iv had a few cheap 1 that dont rly last, so lookin at upgrading so they last me longer,

so any ideas of makes would be great,
thank you in advance :)

I agree CK and Wera drivers are good - I have CK atm and bought the set on offer from Screwf*x yesterday, but I also have a couple of screwdrivers which I bought when I started out and cost me 99p each from Robert Dyas.
Again, CK and Knipex pliers and cutters are also good, but I'm still using the Stanley ones I bought when I started out.
For cutters I like the cable shear type ones you get from wholesalers; what I would suggest is talking to the guys you're working with about the tools they use, and having a go with them for yourself to see if you like them.

Always liked Stanley stuff myself, never been hugely rated but is comfortable to use.

Yep bought some good Stanley tools last year

got the Fatmax 18v Combi drill for only 99 quid from Argos it comes with 2 Li On batteries that charge in 30 mins works great on the job (Bought it after some recommended it on here)

The Fatmax 5-1 in Hacksaw that someone always spots in my Fatmax Open Tote Tool bag ,it's a great hacksaw to use as it has a bit of Weight on it, even comes with a Padsaw Blade :P

also got the Fatmax Foldable Knife very easy to swap the blades on it & the Torpedo level which has very strong Magnets.on it

and also got the VDE pliers & Tin Snips as well.

Anyways +1 for the WERA drivers I got the VDE set last year from Amazon (20 Quid) solid build quality & comfortable to use
