Hi all,

A customer wants me to replace a light-fitting and/or light switch for a metallic one, to a lighting circuit with no CPC.
Property must therefore be pre 1966 (ish).

Is this a definite NO-NO.
I would feel very uneasy about doing so.

Ta,
W1ll.

This thread started by asking if a light circuit with no cpc could have a metal fitting connected
It ends by the revelation that it is class 2 and was not required in the first instance

I got lost somewhere in between,

if the fitting is class 2 and marked as such with the double square, then OK to fit, but i'd add a sticker on the CU stating " no cpc on lighting circuits. class 2 fittings & switches only to be used".

I was told on the forum last week that quoting regs pulls the chicks so 411.3.1.1. Every point/accessory in the installation should have a CPC point and all exposed conductive parts should be connected.

In simple terms if not a class 2 fixture then it needs to be connected to the CPC -- which I think is just about what everbody has already said!.

Well if i come up against this problem, if possible , i just lift the floor above or get in the loft and run a 4mm earth from a local ring main circuit

Note on cert

job done

book another hour on the job for the extra work

get paid

why walk away?

....run a 4mm earth from a local ring main circuit .... Note on cert

Glad to hear someone issues certs for work they've done and even better they make notes as to what they've done!

Can be very helpful on an inspection/EICR to throw some light onto trying to help you interpret and understand those readings that you weren't expecting to get .......

When the lights are off they all look the same .... as a former mentor of mine would say, "Lad, you dont look at mantlepiece when stoking fire"

You hope, untill you find something hard and pointy haha.

If a bloke jumped on top of you naked, would you ---- him off? Or would you just leave him on you?

Serious question that.

As it happens, when working with the same mentor in Thailand in the early 80's he introduced me to these bars that had very pretty lady boys. Well, one night after drinking too much ...........
