hi everyone, im new here, and looking for some advice on immersion.
My boiler packed up 2 weeks ago, and having problems trying to fix, sort, research a new one.
In the meantime I thought i could use the immersion for hot water.
It appears i dont have one.
I have a normal non condensing, none working boiler at the moment and im thinking of replacing like for like.

On my tank in the airing cupboard is what looks like the space for the immersion and looks like its been capped off.
No sign of a switch. The only switch in there is for the heating control panel/timer.

How hard and how expensive would it be to get one put in, just till i work out the boiler issue.

thanks in advance Lou

Just bite the bullet & replace the lot with a decent Combi boiler - something about 30kW should do nicely for your average sized house and it'll provide you with loads of water for a stonking shower!!

You need to involve an electrician.
It needs a supply from your consumer unit, there may already be one there.
The electrician should be able to fit it for you unless as Murdoch says the boss gets damaged. In which case he may or may not need a plumber.
But first you should contact your electrician.

[Thinking about cost boys, just bought a car for 3800, (needed a loan) and had to spend 1700 putting it right. Im being screwed left right and centre at the moment.

Yes i need a new boiiler but cost is the issue. I dont have 2 grand, Can cope without heat but no hot water is killing me.

Just need a bit of respite, hence just trying to get some hot water.

Quoted 374 to replace thermosat and circiut board, if thats the problem. Boiler is ideal classic ff350, no idea how old was here when i moved in 8 years ago.

Dont want to keep throwing money at stuff and still have problems.

I dont have a money tree in the garden ffs. lol

Trying to get quotes and trusting someone, and trying to understand all the different boilers and jargon is a bl**** nightmare.

Not very trusting of anyone at the moment, seems like they see a girl and see pound signs.

Its all getting a bit too much

I sympathise - do you not have any neighbours/friends/family who can recommend somebody? Sure a new boiler will cost but if the one you have is very old there will be gas bill savings to be made from that day on......

If the blanking plug can be removed without damaging the cylinder then an immersion heater can be fitted.
There are two possibilities for the electrical connections on a temporary basis. 1, have the boiler system disconnected from the existing switchfuse and have a timeswitch to supply the immersion connected to this, this can be disconnected when the new boiler is wired (this assumes the supply to the switchfuse is big enough to feed the immersion) 2, have a flexible cable long enough to reach a nearby socket connected to the immersion with a 13A plug on it (only as a temporary measure)
