Didn't realise WD40 did fish oil! Thought the whole point of this thread was to get a temporary supply of hot water, while decisions were made about boiler. Therefore an immersion, cable and plug seems eminently sensible compared with thousands for new boiler :)

Wd40 is made from fish oil, that's why it has that distinctive aroma. It's a wonderful water dispersal agent and metal cleaner/polish (brilliant for cleaning fingerprints from stainless cooker hoods after you've fitted them) but as a penetrating lube it's pretty rubbish compared to most other products.

id weigh up the cost of an immersion tank + costs of fitting it etc. Then i would weigh up the costs of actually repairing the boiler itself. You might be wise to get your boiler insured by british gas etc as they only make you pay for parts i think.

Why would she need a new tank? She's got one already.

Doesn't her post State she doesn't have one?

Could it be you may have missed this line because it was hidden away in the first post lol

quote
On my tank in the airing cupboard is what looks like the space for the immersion and looks like its been capped off.

She has asked about a very simple job of fitting an element to an existing boss in a tank
Anyone worth their salt will do this job with very little problem
Go lady and seek out someone local and keep in mind its not the mammoth task that seems to have been suggested by some

as Des just said. judicious use of a club hammer and spanner should shift it without damaging the tank. if it was difficult, plumbers couldn't cope.

It's best to partially drain the tank then use lots of heat from a good torch (can set fire to tank foam ! ) then a good box spanner should get the blanking plug out.
Personally I hate doing it so leave to plumbers unless I really have too !!!

Don't drain anything out of the tank until you have got half a turn on the immersion or blanking plug. Without the water to support the sides of the tank it will buckle when you try to undo it!

And don't use a blowtorch on a foam insulated tank, that's asking for trouble.

Very Good advice.

And I'd doubt most sparks are insured for the used for a blowtorch. Not sure any trade is though for use in the wrong environment!

When the OP says "Capped off",i wonder if it actually has an element fitted, and it is the cap that has been viewed?

I have encountered this, where a boiler has been fitted, piped to the coils, and the electrics to the original immersion have been removed/diverted.

Only the other day,i got to tell a couple, who were enquiring what would be involved, fitting U/F heating to their kitchen, that the property ALREADY had it,as an original fitment,on all the ground floor.

Room switch/stats removed and plastered over,re-wireables removed.

Just a thought...:icon12:

[Thinking about cost boys, just bought a car for 3800, (needed a loan) and had to spend 1700 putting it right. Im being screwed left right and centre at the moment.

Yes i need a new boiiler but cost is the issue. I dont have 2 grand, Can cope without heat but no hot water is killing me.

Just need a bit of respite, hence just trying to get some hot water.

Quoted 374 to replace thermosat and circiut board, if thats the problem. Boiler is ideal classic ff350, no idea how old was here when i moved in 8 years ago.

Dont want to keep throwing money at stuff and still have problems.

I dont have a money tree in the garden ffs. lol

Trying to get quotes and trusting someone, and trying to understand all the different boilers and jargon is a bl**** nightmare.

Not very trusting of anyone at the moment, seems like they see a girl and see pound signs.

Its all getting a bit too much

...I bet you're hoping Katie Price is setting up her Welsh holiday home...

Nice offer though :icon12:

Peg, now sure where the link to Katie price came in (-: I must be a bit slow this morning.

As it happens I used to live about 10 miles from Katie Price in Sussex and saw her a few times. (-:
