Discuss No provision for earth on downlighters in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

My advise would be to find a way of connecting all the cpc's together. Imaging if some diyer in the future changes a faulty one to a class one fitting. At least the provision of the earth is there :)

Hello,
I am new to the forum, but already find it so very useful - with so many views and good advice. I just want to find the time to read more of the comments....

I am just having the same problems with lamps as purchased by the customer - double insulated, fire rated, 240v, 50w GU10 downlighters with no external earth and tiny unrealistic twin choc block connectors. The earth is of course not required for the fitting itself.
My own proposed solution is to use one Ashley 501 jb in each room, (which fits neatly through the hole in the ceiling without having to enlarge it), to provide the power in and switch out. Then three-terminal choc blocks onto the heat shielded cable of each of the fittings and with all live, neutral and cpc's linked in the choc block, adjacent to each of the six separate downlighters. All of the cables are fully retained in each of the six choc block boxes.
Appears to be a lot of trouble but I think that it meets the regs. All jb's are accessible, when required, via each downlighter's hole in the ceiling.
