No RCD Protection

Hi all,
I got job which client ask me to replace 20 down lights and install new bathroom extractor fan but DB is not RCD protected.(client dose not want change DB )
can I do my job without changing DB or I must change DB?

If your works will involve alterations(adding lights?) You will require additional protection for the lighting as it’s domestic and for the circuits serving the bathroom location. If it’s like for like replacement items then it could be classed as just maintenance and not an alteration or addition to the existing installation.

changing lights, like for like, is no problem. if the fan is a replacement, it'sOK . if a new install, then RCD must be added, preferably to all circuits in bathroom. if client refuses, walk away.

External RCD in a two way enclosure between the existing CU and circuit.

Replace with rcbo in the unlikely case you can get them otherwise I would do as Dionne Warwick said walk on by

Replace CB with a rcbo if available. But I'm guessing it's a board with fuses.

As soon as it involves adding cable between lights, it’s an alteration, so minor works and rcd required.

Asking the question, as I’m sure we’ve all been in similar situations.... but maybe an enclosure on the outgoing circuit from the Fusebox containing an rcd?

Cheap as and a doddle to fit.

Can be installed wherever suits your needs.

You will be expected to provide RCD protection for the Bathroom.

LV inline fan above would sort that.....unless some of the lights are in the bathroom.

Do the lights replacements and while you are there cost em up a new rcbo consumer unit and try to sell them on the added benefits of an upgraded fuse board.
if they don’t want the consumer unit you can’t force them and just bill em for the lights
