Agree Des

when i was on site yrs back we used to jsut call in whichever local shop like Norweb or Manweb shop fill a connection form they came tested and if everything ok switched on

all we had to do was install everything inc tails the rest was down to them simple

worked perfect this way seems ridiculous and luckily only had to deal with BG and was fairly straightforward but I agree the DNO s should have to fit isolators as they keep saying everything there equipment except tails if they fit Iso then they are then responsible for the tails on there side

Des 56 - I fully understand the problems you highlight. I have tried to ensure supply companies call centre staff know what you are asking for. Some of the companies have established specific phone numbers which are included in the DCUSA de-energisation document. Fitting DP isolators is good idea, and debated before, the main issue is cost - which falls to the electricity supplier, whereas the hassle falls to you.

Hi mate the cost of fitting is payed for by customer as

and as its there equipment and we cant touch it the supplier or whoever is responsible for the equipment should have a legal duty to carry out this work and as des says fit DP isolators to every installation when say

there is a change of ownership of the building or supplier

At least BG did do the work for £39 and this is a set price for either or all eg
main tails , DP isolator, digi meter if needed

but to get the 80A upgraded to a 100A main protective device
its now down to the DNO which i my area is NORWEB I think Unitied Utilities do the work
as the main supply cable will need upgrading
I have been told this can take from anywhere between 4-8 weeks and cost between £200 and £800 which is unbelievable price it should be there duty considering the money that is charged for the use these days
