Discuss Non continuous main bonding in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

If it's existing, no problem.
If it's just been installed, one end of the cable wants shoving somewhere it will hurt and make them remember next time.

Why? where in BS 7671 does it say it has to be continuous?

Agreed. Sometimes in premises where EICR is carried out it is found that local extraneous metalwork requiring bonding is not done. Fuseboard far away and not practical to run new. Nothing wrong with linking to gas or water bond at the clamp as long as suitable continuity is proved!! Nothing in the regs prohibits this.

No reg number for this so called requirement as far as i know. Certainly can't see a mention within BGB.
I seem to recall seeing something though in a publication by a well known scammer scheme who will remain anonymous making an issue of bonding connected at a clamp but not being integral ( 2 separate conductors connected at the clamp) This is where interpretation once again causes confusion.

Well it's in the snags and solutions along with their other reg about not ty wrapping Bonding conductors to pipes :biggrin5:

To be honest the ty wrapping bit i do agree with and i am sure that certain regs could be used in conjunction to condemn this shoddy practice although there is no direct reg against it.

I am not for one minute saying it isn't a good idea not to do it bud, just saying they like to make up their own regs, I will see if I can find the book, I have it around somewhere and I can post some more of their regs up for a friday night laugh :biggrin5:
