This is fantastic, I'm new and have been treated very well, but then again have not asked dumb questions, cant see why you need a switch to control the EML if you turn it off the battery wont chrage, as it is non maintained then you need a LNE at the fitting connected to the correct terminal and a switch line and active (sorry live for you guys took me a few years to get around that) if you want to operate the light via a switch when the power is on, these cables are connected to C and L1 at the switch, we dont have to earth the wall box at our switches so I dont know if you still have to so I cant help on that, left the UK in 1980

Mike123. PLEASE take Ray Galea's advice and get an electrician in.

It's very simple to do what you need but you just do NOT have enough knowledge to be SAFE.

You can't smell it, can't see it but when you feel it, it's too damn late. Electicity KILLS.

Thankfully you don't have the loop in to your light switch but the switch drop will be LIVE.

A light switch is just that, switches the light (LIVE) so doesn't have a neutral.

L1, L2, C, indicates a 2 way switch, it changes contact between C (common) and L1, L2.

If it's in a metal back box then it should have and earth terminal, some plastic ones do but not often.
IF a Neutral is present it'll be in a loos terminal block.

Dare say you're a clever guy but this is not something to learn on without hands on expert guidance, you could kill yourself or your partner or children.

Please, Please call a sparks.

Mike123. Just read the entire thread.

Someone suggested you put a plug on your flex, good advice but make sure it only has a 2 or 3 amp fuse in it.

This is a forum for electricians, we earn our living by it, don't mind giving a bit of advice but someone doing DIY expecting to be taken seriously while taking our work will get the pee taken.
If we all did your job in our spare time then you'd be out of work.

You really don't have a clue about electricity so PLEASE call a sparks in. If you knew enough you'd have it done by now. IT COULD KILL YOU OR YOUR FAMILY IF YOU GET IT WRONG.
