Old circuit - can I replace MCBs with RCDs? | Page 3 | on ElectriciansForums

Discuss Old circuit - can I replace MCBs with RCDs? in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

nobody here would disagree that a CU fitted with MCB and RCD protection is a better situation than a 3036 rewireable fuse board. the question is whether that 3036 board is safe for continued use. and how far do you go in persuading the customer to upgrade. advise by all means, but don't use scaremongering tactics. that's for the wet behind the ears young sparks who don't know any better.

I think I'm coming across wrong for some reason here, if anyone thinks a 3036 board is OK to be left as it is because it achieves disconnection times etc. then fine, I on the other hand don't think it's fine as I would prefer to see the installation as safe as it possibly can be, I have never and will never scare a customer but what I will do is offer my many years of experience and knowledge and then let them make the call.

Don't forget guys opinions are like assholes we've all got one

Until you mentioned 3036 fuses in your above post #25, No mention has been made of them before hand in this thread!! The OP clearly stated at least twice that the CU in question was occupied by MCB's??

Perhaps you should also consider when making wild comments that every circuit should be protected by an RCD, that most industrial installations, Still do not require RCD protection at final distribution boards!!

They are and always have been ''Additional Protection'' on TN installations.... As i said before going by your way of thinking, were all lucky to still be alive and kicking, living all those years without a single RCD in sight. Or maybe, just maybe, the time proven ADS system of protection actually works!!! lol!!

The original post refers to a domestic situation, the clue is the use of the word "house" so why are you now referring to industrial installations ? Like I've said my opinion is that a DOMESTIC installation is better served via an RCD and nobody will make me think otherwise
