So called accreditation bodies
They are all a scam not official bodies and all can be scammed to get in, they are only interested in income. (And who can get the biggest share)
Look at the money they have in reserve.

why isn’t this just published on line with and info accessed like any other data base.Referance books soooooooo yesterday(Kids tell me)

Saving the hard worked spark having to take update courses how to use the stupid, overcomplicated thing. (They even do guide to explain the first guide, then other sub guides to explain other bits)

All so when they get them wrong and have to up date it every year, this could be done on line.

So you do an apprenticeship, take your city and guilds, get your Gold card, and spend the next 40 years carrying out all types of installations from inception to completion running jobs for large companies, public bodies, etc.
I have always tried to keep up with the job (dead easy now with the internet)
I am a member of one of the big 2 and have been for years, it used to be ok but over the years it has become very expensive and intrusive. I find the interrogation/assessment very stressful now.
It used to be 3 years now they have wangled it to 1 year or 18months (all at considerable cost)
They check that you have all the latest books, your paper work (same as last year)and that you haven’t become un safe in the time in-between.( The person taking out my assessment wasn’t born when I Started my own business)
If it was possible for me to make a mistake that caused real harm to anyone or thing (anyone can make a mistake) then nothing could prevent it.
If safety is so important.
Take the domestic supply down to 110v as in other countries.(The supply authorities are supplying a dangerous product)
What about the IPAF card have to renew every 3 years why (money)
Now the HSE have joined in £145 per hour if they find something wrong on site. (No motivation there then)
Lets start a campaign to fight back at these parasites.(I will run it if any bodies interested mail me if you are)

To be a qualified Electrician you have to have been trained, and keep up to current regulations and foremost you need to be competent in the job you are undertaking, as far as im aware there is no current requirement to be a member of any body or scheme but with larger jobs or council work a implicated requirement to work in such cases may be required, i know many who dont have membership but are very competent they have full insurance in case of errors or accidents and anyone were to contend their work they would hold their own in court successfully.
Yes your correct its a money grabbing industry and they are constantly looking for more methods to squeeze it out of you but above all the hype etc you are not required to be a member, if you can pull in the work efficiently without membership then do so.

I agree with every thing you say.
THEY have created this situation.
On most of the type of sites you mention, they will ask for your ECS cards thus proving that you and your operatives are competent, as far as can be accomplished. Why need for anything more?

As said, when I first got my JIB card in the 70's it did not have any expiry date, someone then must of realised that they could make money by making it renewable evry so often.

Apart from Plumbers who upgrade their gas certificate I can't think of any other trade that has all these costs.

Well i reckon if i was by mistake to do something that was to cause harm to person or property then being a scheme member would not change that.

yeah, bloody farce. yet a Electrical Trainee (with all due respect to those Electrical Trainee that have experience and can do the job) can come from being a call centre monkey, get the papers, join a scam, and be legal.

There needs to be an electricians union. That's 'electrician' not 5wfw, That support the cause, properly. Jib are out of date. They need to get their act together. They're not interests in our needs anymore. Theyve become hangers on only because 'jib' is a recognised mark. All of the other organisations just want to tap in on earnings that cost us more every year. It'll get as bad as besna the way they make agreements and try to oust each other for the monopoly. There needs to be an electricians union with a voice . A voice of our own. Not some degree qualified p***k whos never held a drill. Sorry lads. Just another old boy rant.

There was one, first they let in the plumbers, then merged with the AEU then merged with the T & G becoming a minority in the union that electricians started
