Any body like to guess, how old this method of conduit pre thread, slip tube, I would say late 1800's, but I am sure it was not till well after the 1900's. Any one like to put an date to it.?

1930's??? Pretty much all of the 40's boards I've come across have been made out of wood or ammo cases

are there no dates stamped on anything Dave?

Yes, 1930s-40s most likely. Slip conduit didn't specifically pre-date threaded, it was just cheaper and quicker to install although less secure and effective for continuity. It's not likely to be late into the 1940s because changes in the ESR and wiring regs made way for SP fusing instead of the DP in those two boards.

The small board right is MEM, with Kantark Minor 15A fuses. The left one I am not sure about, is it Prento?

Hmm, not sure about Artic, I have a few sizes here and whilst they resemble each other they don't match the ones in that box. Also I've never seen Artic fusegear outside of panels / equipment / heavy industrial applications. TBH I'm not convinced about Prento either, it was just the diamond motif on the fuse handles that suggested them.

Actually if it is Artic, we definitely need it for the collection!

I can't remember when the MEM Kantark minor fuse came out, might have been 1928, so if that box is original it won't be before then. Alexandra Palace has been through so many incarnations in its different areas that there's probably electrical gear from every decade still in there. There was some rather nice electrical stuff being installed in the BBC bit 80 years ago, ready for the first UK TV station.

The first practical electric light installations were going in during the late 1870s / early 1880s, e.g. Cragside which is a contender for 'first electrically lit house' and the Savoy theatre which was the first public building lit only by electricity.
