Seen plenty of RCD's like this once tripped or switched a few times they appear to work normally for how long is a good question. I think the failure is due to not pressing the test button every few months but let's face it who does

This highlights the false sense of security an RCD can provide especially when simple quarterly maintenance is not carried out by the user.

How long will it be before someone is killed and we have an inquiry as to why the RCD didn't do it's job

Could be cold meter syndrome as I call it. Always used to get dodgy readings first thing in the morning (especially this time of year) when the meter was cold from being left in the boot all night. Remedy is to let it travel with you in the passenger footwell till you get to first job.

I get this too!!...meter just makes up the readings until its warmed up...

Sometimes have to warm the batteries up too it's that cold...

No shouldnt have to. Its in calibration and has been getting correct results everywhere else. Even tested it at the other job im on - all fine.

Definately a vv strange one.

Can't see that as being a sensible reply, at the very least a calibration check on your test equipement should be carried out once a week. How do you know your getting ''correct results'' everywhere else, if you don't do regular calibration checks??

During testing and commissioning stages on my projects, i want to see a daily morning calibration check sheet, ....the last thing i want to have to do, is go back to re-test a day's or several day's testing, because the test kit has lost it's calibration accuracy.
Let's face it, how long does it take to check your test kit's values with a calibration checker, ...just a few minutes, ...it's a no-brainer really, when your professionally relying on your test equipment on a daily basis
