Been called to a property today as cust has had her house rewired by a cowboy (issued a paper NICEIC cert, couldnt/didnt actually reg the job as wasnt even reg with them etc...).. Loads of things wrong, however a couple of items I would like a 2nd opinion on 2 points please as not 100% certain.. (Think I am right but cant actually find a reg to support??). Want to make sure 100% as cust and NICEIC will be trying to take action against last so called sparky.

1. Shouldnt Earth electrode/clamp have a cover box to protect connection/warning label (Earth electrode is currently installed under lounge carpet (Wedge of concrete taken out and underlay/carpet layed straight on top of). Surely this is not bloody allowed..

2. Also Shouldnt Main Earthing conductor run directly from electrode to either MET block/Consumer unit? (Currently conductor comes from earth electrode to gas meter then to consumer unit.. (Using main earthing conductor as bonding conductor for gas?) surely this isnt allowed)

Obviously, they know the standard of the electricians that, they themselves are registering into there Part Pee schemes as being ''competent!!'' Which in some way's is laughable, ...if it wasn't so serious....
well this is it eng...even though we havn`t been treated to pics of this `effort` by god knows who....just by reading the op`s script....it all starts to sound a bit familiar.....so we already know the gyst of what we will probably see on monday...now we know that the `electrician` who did this `work` was an impostor.....but an agency that claims to have the best interests of the public in its sights is only bothered about copyright.....and its THAT that is worrying....

Revenue and publicity, that's all they are interested in.

You can't do anything about revenue but you can about publicity, IE make it bad.

If you want them to do anything stir it up a bit, try sending them a link to this thread for starters.

It's the only angle you have.

MET should go straight to the DB from the earth electrode which would normally be in a electrode box with relevant labeling on it.
equipotential bonding should go from the DB to the incoming services.

Maybe the sparky is old school lol

Therein lies the problem. I see no merit in further circular debate, so will bow out of this discussion.
