I've got a job next week installing some outdoor wall lights, the lights are in a brick wall on an outdoor wall on a drive wall, the lights will be hooked up to a timer on a 5amp fuse. Would standard indoor 1.5 mill wiring in conduit be suitable? Tom

you didn't say buried in your OP. i was thinking of wall mounted lights on the house itself. if buried, i'd go for SWA , terminated in IP rated boxes.

Wouldn't you need some mechanical protection as the flex is gonna be in the earth.

Sorry forgot to mention that, so flex would not be suitable? Its for a mate so he wants it done on the cheap, Obv if your can't use flex by law then I'll have to get some swa cable

It's important when posting questions that you include the most important factor at least;)

There is nothing wrong in you using flex as per regulation 521.9.3, but it is not the normal method of erection.

As Tel said SWA/MICC is an easier way to do the job, or if you have conduit and singles/T+E then you can use that.

I personally would use conduit and singles or conduit and T&E :thumbsup

Also, have you checked the Bonding and will this be RCD protected? ;)

I'm presuming that you're fitting a fused spur to the downstairs ring?

For god’s sake leave the job alone, you obviously haven’t a clue what you’re doing.

I’m not in the slightest bothered about you, it’s you mate that could end up dead that I worry for!

As long as the existing wiring is approved for outdoor use and everything is working as planned then there is no need to replace the wiring.
