Hi guys, a Custormer has asked if I can install some outside lighting. He doesn’t want cables to be seen so I thought of going on the back side of the fence (not the garden side) and running the cables up the fence posts, Whiska box and then drilling through the fence post and having the light on the other side(inside the garden). Now he’s a shored me that the open land on the other side is actually his land and he owns it. However I don’t know how I feel having Whiska boxes facing towards open land. And also running cables up and down fence posts? Am I breaking any regs here? I was thinking about maybe putting electrical safety stickers on the Whiska boxes. What’s peoples thoughts?

How big/wide are the fence posts?

how big and what kind of lights are they?

Is there any way you can drill through the post and gland both swa into the back of the light or maybe drill lower than the light through the post and gland into the bottom of the light if he’s okay with a few inches of cable showing?

So looping in and out with the connections inside the light which will remove the need for the WISKA boxes

Good idea, I could look for bigger lights tbf, the lights I’ve looked at ate quite sleek and compact. I’m having a chat with him tomorrow. I might be able to figure something out regarding that idea! Thanks a lot ! Do you know the way I’m doing it is against regs ?

Doing it the way I’ve suggested I wouldn’t imagine it would but maybe someone else can pitch in on this.

I’m not sure if I’d put WISKA boxes on the otherside where others can access it. Maybe if it was quite high up and you needed steps then I would, but not if it was readily accessible at standing height. But then again if no one’s really around and it’s open land and he claims it’s his land it should be okay. It could be noted down on the paperwork that the client stated it’s his land etc.
