Hello Guys, Im a pub manager and im trying to save money. Before i call a sparky out. I have a number of floodlights on a timer however between midnight and 6am no one is in the pub so wasting energy (Have to have lights as we get broken in to and for CCTV) i Was thinking of getting someone in to install PIR lights in key areas and to save money i was wondering if they could run them from the permenant live in the emergency lights?

Re: PIR Lighting and Emergency Lighting

Be best to run them from the same circuit they are already supplied from, if that is the same circuit as the em lighting then fine. Best suggestion is install new eternal pirs to a contactor near the time switch

go for LED floods on PIRs. that way you'll save in 2 ways. 1. lights only come on intermittently.2. LED floods use only a fraction of the power when on. so a no brainer.

FFS, this is amateur stuff Guys and you all seem to be struggling with it.

The Time clock for the lights can be removed and the timing circuit bypassed, the feed out to the lights (New Lights, get rid of the SONs) then simply needs a stand-alone PIR inserted, either one or one for each light...simples

Here is a quick 2 minute layout I did in Word and converted to a picture to upload here..

I don't know where you are, I know Essex well (I have probably drank in your pub!), but if you need a sparky who will do you a fantastic job without ribbing you i would suggest you contact Justin Vickery of Vickery Electrical in Witham, any of his boys will do you proud (01376 519933, his mobile is 07710233142)

Personally, i wouldn't bother taking the timer out of circuit, it removes the possibility of the PIR's adjustments becoming faulty and operating throughout the daylight hours!! Haven't yet found one, that has a decent lifespan before something goes wrong with them!!
