Hello Guys, Im a pub manager and im trying to save money. Before i call a sparky out. I have a number of floodlights on a timer however between midnight and 6am no one is in the pub so wasting energy (Have to have lights as we get broken in to and for CCTV) i Was thinking of getting someone in to install PIR lights in key areas and to save money i was wondering if they could run them from the permenant live in the emergency lights?

Personally, i wouldn't bother taking the timer out of circuit, it removes the possibility of the PIR's adjustments becoming faulty and operating throughout the daylight hours!! Haven't yet found one, that has a decent lifespan before something goes wrong with them!!

That's what happens when you buy cheap Chinese made one :D

I've used all the top named high end products in this field, still haven't found a decent long life external PIR!! Maybe they don't like the high ambient temperatures they are installed in, i don't know. I try and avoid using them when and wherever possible!!

Like so many other high end products, many of those manufactures are now in China, and are being manufactured there, along with the crap!! lol!!

Get Ambient PIR flood lights (LED would be best for your electric bill), replace the current lights with these, or PIR lights and 1 ambient sensor connecting all the light together.

Bypass/remove the timer this would surely be the easiest thing to do with Britains ridiculous sunset and rise timings.

Then ambient sensor powers the PIR when there isnt enough light the PIR powers the light when someone is detected - put it on a decent 10 - 15 min timer so punters dont moan the lights are always going on and off!!!!!
Then the ambient cuts the power to the PIR/lights when there is enough natural daylight.
