hi all,
was in focus today and i noticed their "HOW TO GUIDES" :p

it would appear you no longer need to be registered onto a competent persons scheme or spend the 3 years at college anymore to be able to safely install electric showers as they supply full instructions and even a FREE EXPERT HELPLINE

check out the attachments. this has got to be part poo shown in all its glory

B & Q and wickes do the same ,
there going to a line in home generation eqpt next year with free advice on your own reactor

I'm shocked, was nearly as bad as when B&Q were telling a customer to do a DIY CU upgrade. (See other post... that I can't remember the name of)!!

Think we should lobby focus, can't it be illegal for them to be telling people to break the law... Might take some legal advice think I've got a job at me solictors this week, so will mention it

"Using the most convenient route..."

So that blows safe zones out of the water...3k for 3 years at college alone on course fees & no Regs or testing quals yet! Why do I now own 2x folders bigger than the bible for L3 when a 4pp leaflet tells me all I need...

Wonder what the next Government policies will be on this?...

The reality is the "sheds" are not going to make a big deal out of Part P or the regs. It would be counter productive to their profit. It could put unqualified people off of buying their expensive electrical goods, if said people knew that they were breaking the law by carrying out notifable work in their houses.

Lets be honest -who is their target market? I would say its not sparks, going by the cost of electrical goods in these sheds. It is mainly DIY, who are in there because they want to save money by doing themselves, and therefore aren't going to "waste" money by paying to notify or get a professional in to do it.

Have a read of the Homebase 'How to fit a new light' leaflet and if:

a) you can understand it
and
b) you can follow it without electrocuting yourself

please let me know. A big cash prize awaits *

* Not really.

Do they do a how to fit a new gas boiler leaflet?

No thought not!!!!

Even better fitting a new boiler in a dark place using a candle

train to be a part p competent person while on the loo!

The blame for this lies with the part p governing body.
They should not allow joe public access to this equipment ,
If I installed one after purchasing it from a shed and killed mysel ( hyperthetical question this ) who's to blame
Me - the shed - the manfacturer or the government
