Discuss Passed my 2395 :) in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

confusing isn't it!

from the city and guilds website..
2394 = Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations
2395 = Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
2396 = Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations

From comments from my tutor and looking at past papers 2395 is basically the same as 2391-10 except all the exam questions are on periodics (i.e. no initial verification). I think 2396 is more a replacement for 2391-20 isn't it?

Mewff91: My advise is to get your hands on as many past papers (for 2391) as possible and practice. Then don't forget that 2395 is periodics only so any test sequences etc are for periodics rather than initial verification!

well done brman - good going.

edit: didn't read the full thread. just spotted that you passed a while ago. well done anyway.

2391 had a low pass rate because it was a hard exam my company has just put me through the 2395 and it was a walk in the park compared to the 2391 they need to be making it harder

Thats the whole point. So many where failing 2391 because there was too much to learn that they split it in two. so the 2395 is only half of 2391.

were they failing because there was too much to learn? i have a feeling it's more to do with lack of ability or lack of effort. the low pass rate is one of the reasons why 2391 is so well respected. when i did it, i went for the 12 week course rather than the 5 day one. this gave me plenty of time to get acquainted with gn3. it took a hell of an effort though, and i must have read it four times from cover to cover. what are they going to consider an acceptable pass rate for 2394 and 2395? if it's high, the market's going to get saturated and the qualification will become undesirable. if the pass rate's low, are they going to split them in two again? we could end up with a separate course for each chapter of gn3.

it is a fact that an experienced electrician could pass the old 2391-10 after 3 days of tuition. However, anyone can pass if they are given long enough instruction.

Must add, the 2391-20 is now the 2396. It has been changed from a level 3 to a level 4. There is a lot to get through in a short time in the exam. Don'd be too concerned that it is a 10 question exam, there is a lot of writting and explanation involved. Not to mention real electrical applied maths.

A bit of a relief as I had convinced myself I had messed it up and I know I was capable of doing a lot better. Maybe it is not so hard after all

Congratulations,

I've passed my 2395 practical and 40 online question test but I thought the written
long question paper was not released before Tuesday 16th Oct to prevent wide spread of the questions?

Regards Steve

I don't think you even need to study harder to pass 2391. I found past papers on 2391 just as easy if not easier than the 2395 exam i did!
Actually, even though the subject is slightly narrower (not including initial verification) the 2395 is perhaps harder than 2391 as it has an extra multiple choice exam (ok, not a difficult one...). Oh, and did the 2391 practical have a section for identifying faults and coding them from pictures? 2395 does.

At the end of the day most people do 2391 to "prove" they have the knowledge to do periodics. So in that case 2395 is the obvious replacement.

which might backfire on them as I don't see any point in doing 2394 now I have 2395 :)

Hi I failed it!

Could I ask? What on-line questions did you get?
I got one which said something like : to isolate a three phase motor, and check that it is isolated to need to check?

a L-N, L-E, N-E
b L1,L2 ? Not able to remember the question does this jog your memory? I think I may have read it wrong in the test.

Regards
