Absolutley pointless. That's how I view it. Never had one, never been asked for one, never tried to get one, never will try to get one. As for the am2, I absolutley agree that passing it is where the learning really starts. Your on your own and have to think for yourself and that's when you really build your knowledge. Or sink.
Do you only work in domestic then?

only need the card these days if you have not proved competence (industrial) or to get past the site gestapo on building sites. i never had one and done loads of industrial and commercial till became too knackered to keep up. now even too knackerd for domestic. just a few small jobs and testing left to me. maybe time to devote my time to annoying 'er indoors.

Eccles, but have lived in Denton too.
Don't know Eccles well, spent a lot of time in Denton, it was a bit of a drinking hot spot in the early '80s, Reni used to gig in his parents pub, and denton working men's club with backhanda before the stone Roses, he was a couple of years younger than me and moved to denton from gorton when we were at school.

Recently passed my AM2 exam first time. Ask me any questions and I’ll be happy to answer them !
I failed Insulation Resistance for whatever reason, I tested circuits separately, switched off spurs, removed loads and tester at 500v...

Only i might hve done different was testing ring. I wago one leg (L,N,E separately) and tested from other leg...

How did you test RIng?

Hi Jack,

Congratulations!

I am scared by the Risk Assessment, could you give me some tips how to come across it.

Many thanks.
Willis

It's a very simple risk assessment and is partially populated. The first column has things like slip trips and falls, you then state the activity such as using a platform or trailing leads, the risk rating, who's affected and what you will do to control it. You then write the new lower risk value. Risk is severity x likelihood.

You will have plenty of time and I found the examiner willing to help.

This video should give you some tips

All I can say is thank god I've got "grandfather rights" with NAPIT. My only qualifications are 16th, 17th and 18th along with 2391 from 1999. I cant imagine going through all that faff with AM2 just for the privilege of fitting a couple of sockets in mrs miggins front room. Domestic work could suddenly get very very expensive as people like me start to retire if part P continues to up the anti like its doing.

I think that's the idea and I don't see why it's different to gas safe. I see lots of adverts for 'electricians' that also clean gutters. The industry needs better regulation but I don't agree with some of the AM2.
