PAT testing a toaster

No Earth leakage is a seperate test because when doing run of the mill testing you are only required to do a earth continuity and IR test and this is automatic Earth con first tester checks unit is switched on then IR test .

So the dial reads
top
Leakage current test
Class II
Class I 20A
Class I IT 200mA
Extension lead
bottom

Remember this tester in my view is a good unit for doing the odd PAT test as it suits me because I do PAT testing for rentals but its horses for courses here if you were doing hundreds a week then you you need a programable computer based unit but I DONT want to go there as I said it compliments my business . I also got Business headed and numbered PAT labels 5000 and 500 microwave labels plus ebayed the laptop lead adaptor for £3.50p plus because I bought the bundle the threw in the 110/240 commando leads but they got left in the garage as I only do domestice then adapted the documentation from How to Keep PAT Testing Records

Unless the appliance is switched on, the IR test is only going to be be on the supply flex to the switch (both cores joined).

Yes correct but as said in earlier posts the KT71 tells you if the unit is switched off and highlights a fail but yes you can get around it by pushing the test button again but then you just test the lead

A quick update. My wife performed a functional test (i.e. made toast) and one of the elements had blown so I dumped it anyway. So much for the pat testing...

Most PAT testers will generate an error message if the device is switched off during the insulation test.
