PAT Testing - Charges!

Recently used an external supplier to PAT a large school. He had a sliding scale of charges from £3.80 down to £3 for 50+.

i am an electrical enginner with hnc nvq 3in electrical and have just set up my own pat firm ltd but wanted to noe the best price iwas going to charge 1.80 per item and anything under 50 items would have a admin charge of 35 pounds does this sound ok

Hi yes thank you as i work for a major food and bevarage company as an engineer i work 3 on 3 off and get 9 and 15 days every other month i wanted to do this as a little exta cash as the company has only cost me just over a thousand pounds with uniform,tester and insurance etc . i have now got contracts with 4 local care homes a scout hut, social club and a day centre so not looking to bad this should pay for the company and more. thinking quailty of work should outshine low low costs .

This is one area that I have given up with, I charge £3 per item up to 50 items then £1.50 after that

This is a bare minimum I need to make it worth my while, but as most companies just literally stick pass stickers on everything and charge next to nothing, if your gonna do a proper job it puts you at a huge disadvantage

I do win a few jobs but, I'm not too bothered though it's boring

And to be honest 99% of the time if it's gonna fail then it will be a visual fault anyway, the whole things a bit of a scam in my opinion

yep dont like it myself but I charge a callout fee for the first 12 items plus I dont go looking for it and only do it as courtesy or as a also do with other jobs

Also once you have tested the appliances in these premises you have a long wait to do it all again

Yep I agree with this and the situation I am in is that the landlord wants 2 lights put up a smoke detector replaced and PAT testing at the same time so if I cannot supply this then forget it. So paying out the £800 18 months ago to get PAT tooled up was worth it to me as it paid for itself in the first year but has since then it has tapered away so now the £40 calibration fee is well worth it for me

to be honest where i live you would struggle to get £1 per item as they offer a free PAT testing course to seasonal workers so they have their own testers on site on holiday camps.

Yep got a call so doing a PAT test in an office tomorrow but this is getting occasional but hey hoa

I advisertised on here and other sites, as we have trouble finding PAT testers in the South, non of the firms we used seemed interested. Got a lot of reponse ranging from £5-£8 per item, settle for a guy who seem to know the job for £6.80

I don't think that £3.00 per item is unreasonable if you're doing your work diligently, and throw in plugs, re-wiring, fuses and IEC leads as part of the deal.
