..No point in testing a fuse it's not an electromechanical device, MCB's can be tested both for short circuit as well as overload you cant however measure the disconnection time, but as long as your Zs meets the limits you have satisfied the requirements of 7671, my point was and for some reason M seems to want a handbag fight over it that what gets plugged into an E/Lead is an unknown quantity and I refuse to leave a lead on site that has the capability to have a larger fuse fitted than the CSA of the flex can support, in much the same way as I wouldn't walk off an install and leave a 32A CB in a single 2.5 T&E radial I get it but then again I suppose if you happen to have an odd broken drill bit or nail they might wedge that across the board:eek:

Thanks for replies folks. No one has commented on my second query, to whit:- When carrying out annual visual on IT would you run a full test on the associated IEC/clover leaf power leads?
What's this "earth leakage" testing all about ? You;re not applying mains voltage are you ?

Surely Extension leads and IEC cords are tested for Earth Bond, Insulation and Polarity after of course doing Visual Inspection.

If extension leads are anti-surge (or surge protected) then insulation is done at 250v - if they pass at 500v (as some do) then they are the inferior quality type.

Got a bit lost on this thread now, suffice to say that what I have done on these surge leads is to create a new test on my machine, to do all the usual tests but miss out the insulation test - so do polarity, and earth, and visual of course. I dont have 250V option on my machine (megger pat 4)
