Do you need to be qualified to do pat testing and apart from the qualification and owning a test kit do you need anything else as i have been approaching a lot of letting companies but none are interested unless you do pat testing as well as general works.

No that's basically it. Obviously you need PL insurance as well.

Supposedly just competency, but the 2377 helps prove that.
I've heard of letting agents, councils etc 'requiring' the 2377 before they'll give you the work.

It also helps if you have 2381 17th edition, because some appliances rely on the integrity of the fixed installation for continued safe use. Pat testing is just a generic term for "In Service Test and Inspection of Electrical equipment". Ot covers all appliances whether they are portable, fixed etc etc.
