Working on a site in Islington, London. chatting in the canteen with all the trades about recession, work etc. on the topic of getting work through good services/fair prices etc & painter tells me how a local electrician tried to rip him off and he told him to **** off out his house.
-Got the sparky in to quote for new cu. sparky said £300 new cu & upgrade bonding etc. This painter said told him to smeg off, "consumer units are only £50 in b&q, £20 fitting so shouldn't be no more than £70. do you think I look stupid"
The thing is this painter is not silly and i've worked with him for a bit and gathered that he's no fool & knows a bit about building.
When I hear things like this it really makes you think. I you go and quote for a job sometimes even if you quote a fair price, people think you are trying to rip them off.

i think £300 is too low anyway
i wouldnt even get my **** off of sofa for 70

give me the painters number ill get him in my house to give me a quote. £70 for repaint of house inside and outside. hes provides the paint. ill provide the tea.

They are paying for your years behind the desk at college. The money comes from putting your name on the legal document. Could he do that? No. £20 fitting is he having a laugh. We pay 20 times that to be members of a scheme...as already said any lame excuse of a human being can paint a wall. Me an the mrs done the whole house cost us £350 in paint to a very good standard he'd probably want near 2 grand labour for that.

£20 to fit!!!!!!!!! Hahahaha!!!! Hes been painting too long, gone brain dead! Bet he wont work for £5 an hour or less. What about testing? No point in that I bet?!

Clued up plonker.

I take it he didnt ask you to do his CU!!!

like MvP says, he can come and paint my fascias £ 20 labour, including hire and erection of scaffold front and rear ( over conservtory), PL insurance, van costs, and all the other costs involved. let's face it, he's spent 4 years at college learning which end of the brush to dip in the paint pot.

was better when paint had lead in it. painters were quiet then.
