Boss has given me the job of doing an EICR on a local petrol station.
Never have I done any work on/in this environment before, I can barely remember much about the additional rules (accessories must have some symbol within so many feet of the forecourt or something etc).
I tried expressing my doubts whether I was competent to do this test, and the boss says that I'm the one most liable to do it right and look things up and that he wants to get more into the commercial sector.
Thanks boss - I think.
While I go off and do some research are there any pointers that people could give me or any links to good resources to study.
Thanks.

Ask him for a copy of the Blue Book.

If you don't know what it is keep out of Petrol Station testing until you do know.

If your Boss doesn't have it or know what it is, both of you keep away from Petrol stations.

Link please to a seller - I have until after Easter to do some reading and I'm so looking forward to the
[h=2]Guidance for Design, Construction, Modification, Maintenance and Decommissioning of Filling Stations (Revised June 2011) [/h]
for less then £70

Does your gaffer have suitable insurance in place for working on forecourts?

Also Compex would be useful to have.

Hiya Doomed

as with any situation like this, I would want to shadow someone thats experienced. Several times! And I realisee thats not been offered to you as a solution but you could maybe suggest it?

I thought complex was compulsory to work in petrol filling stations these days.

Yeah but yeah but

depends on definition of 'work'- doing a pir is work, but its not work on the petrol station, its expressing an opinion on someone elses work

Sorry - been away / busy
I don't know what the EICR is for, I don't get told things like that by the bosss, its easier to ask the client when I get there.

So, as I thought, I can't touch anything in the forecourt area. Am I OK with the shop? and how far does the forecourt extend, there are a couple of external bits on the garages supply, but a moderate distance from the pumps.

Please try to avoid belittling answers, I have enough pressure from work / family without extra hassle, I'm asking for help as I have limited time and my searches have not given me a exact enough answer.

As I said in my first post, the boss tends to make me do any research etc, as he is a bit long in the tooth and behind the times.

Do what dies the boss do then? What is your role in the company?

And I think the answer is in bs7671 or one of the associated books, but I haven't got them to hand at the moment to check. I don't want to post what I think is right without the proof.

Seen a couple of garage E.I.C.R. jobs recently where it was just the retail / costa coffe / microwave (try finding a can of bloody oil ) side, and then a different mob, ( as said previously, thought compex compulsory), for the pumps.
Worst case scenario, if you don't know what you're doing, chill out have a smoke and take a mo' to think it through. What could possibly go wrong?

I was taken on as a basic grunt but my boss realised that I had other skills and has been trying to use me more in a greater capacity then I originally intended to be used for - watch this space......
