Discuss PIR - EICR documentation in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

O

oldtimer

So if the EICR phase in from June 2011 to Jan 2012 why is the suppliers still selling PIR documentation instead of EICR ? or I have picked this up wrong

Hi,

I was wondering that myself.
I have just been on the Elecsa website and they have the new EICR amend 1 on there to download. May be the suppliers are trying to make a quick buck getting rid of the old ones to peolpe/cowboys that dont know the change has taken place!!:dizzy2:

Jay

If you know the differences, can you not just add info to the old certs and still make use of them? As long as you make all necessary amendments and state it is to amendment 1 I would have thought this would be ok. Not terrific looking, but still compliant.

Guys it sounds great but if the regulations state that Jan 1st 2012 is the changeover date then I am either missing something or there are guys issueing PIRs that are not legal

Hi,

You can also download the new ones free from the IET website.
But I see your point, if they are still selling the old ones, then they are still being used. I havent heard anything about a running out period, as far as I know the change over was Sunday 1st.
Bit of a mistery but its like all these Auto shops that sell the little blue side light bulbs for your car, it is illegal to use them on your car but they still sell them. Its a noodle scratcher!!!!

This sounds great but we are in a trade where regulations rule so lets say I am asked to do 5 PIRs in January and then weeks later the customer calls and says well Planning says it should be a EICR and you should have known this because they state no say that the phase in period was June 11 to 1st Jan 12 Yes i know i can download them but I cannot afford the inkjet catridges to print them out so anybody got a definitive answer to my original question

HI,

I cant give you adefinitive answer mate cos I, like you, dont really know. If you have the new regs book, you can photo copy the new certs from in there. But if not hopefully someone else will be more helpfull to you.

I imagine, that it's because the suppliers would rather flog their old stock rather bin it.

Upto 31st December 2011 the PIR was a valid document

Quite agree. And now for a statement that should be FACT.
A PIR issued correctly, by a competant person. Should STILL be a valid document regardless of changes implemented after December 2011.

If it was a valid document before that date it should still be valid after. The change over period should allow for old certs to be used, and for suppliers to phase the new certs in.
Recently we purchased PIR's from the NICEIC, and I am sure we are not on our own. Its plain ridiculous to outlaw a perfectly good PIR just because of a date. If they wanted this written in stone then the scheme providers should have been issuing the new format from june last year.
As far as I'm concerned saying that a PIR is not valid plain stinks. Ok I know its just my opinion, but the way we are thrown into these changes with so much guesswork and chinese whisper type rumours makes me sick.
A valid document is a valid document end of. Ok so new style docs may be available along with the old. C1,2, and 3. vs 1,2,3,4. surge protection ect ect.
But none of this has been implemented in a sensible way. Money, Money, Money. Thats what its all about.
Honestly lads, I have seen it all before. We are all hard working sparks out there, doing our best to give a good service, and make a living. But these people, who sit behind a desk, thinking of ways to sponge off us.!!!!!!!
End of rant.

Baldisparkies I am not trying to disagree with you but heres the deal we change the regulation and say they will be implimented on that date so going by what you say I will just keep my red book until it worn out and not bother with RCDs because I have not got around to them yet in other words they make the rules and apparently can decide if they want to do it this week or next but then again when the S*&^% hits the fan they will stand up in court and say well we did say from 1st of Jan 2012 with no exemptions in other words you are screwed.

By the way I have asked the same question on the IET forum and requested that NEICE answer it

Just to correct the above it was the Voltimum T&Q section and not IET

Old Timer, I know your correct in what you say. I just feel the scheme providers should have made the new certs available several months back in preperation.
The old style PIRs were still being sold to sparkies right up to the 11th hour. Most of our clients are still refering to PIR's quite a few have never heard of the new EICR.
It was a rant I know, and maybe after all these years in the trade you get a bit cynical of how and why changes occur, that end up costing us money.
I like you will be using the new format, we have no choice, thats the way it is.

Baldsparkies dont get me wrong I am not having a pop at them for the sake of it but at times it like you are doing a job for a customer and you have to finish it (full stop) for a certain date and then do not turn up you cant blame the customer for getting irate and I hate useing this wording but we dont even have "joined up thinking on this" I mean after all these registration companies are getting paid for this we are their customers plus they should be getting on to the suppliers to remind them of the phase in phase out period and if you go to the Kewtech site even they dont appear to have the documentation ready to go so think of it this way when we changed from 5-15 amp sockets to 13 amp sockets I dont think a customer would be happy if they were getting 5-15 amp sockets fitted because the supplier needs to get rid of old stock

If EICR is being phased in from JUN-11 TO Jan-12 why are suppliers not selling the new documentation in pad form and why are they still trying to sell the PIR pads when my understanding is they can no longer be used after 1st Jan 2012

[ElectriciansForums.net] PIR - EICR documentation

dear Sir,

there has been some delay in providing the new forms.
We cannot comment on other suppliers.

However the NICEIC are now stocking the new EICRs are are available from NICEIC direct.

Regards,

NICEIC Technical

Well there you go straight from the horses mouth this is the very thing I have been banging on about that registration companies who want to manage and get involved in altering the regulations should be leading and managing this changeover give a "Nothing to do with us Guv Honest"

Although to be fair at least NICEIC have answered the question plus they have their documentation ready but it where is the "Joined up thinking here"
