COMMON SENSE PREVAILS

You may have make a call on the 1980's shower - no information and manufacturer no more!

If it's an 80's shower there genrerally wasn't a requirement, so no issue

I see a lot of installs with a new shower on an old shower installation, then it becomes an issue

ps alot of really old manufacturers instructions are available for download from their website

heard of tree huggers, but this CU hugging is new to me. can one have a civil marriage to a few yards of T/E?

Yes, but BASEC decree that any partnership will only be serviceable for a maximum of 25 years :)

with a pre-nuptual agreement of course. must sort out who gets to scrap the copper.

Still seems a bit of confusion on this matter to me, why not ask the uk's independent electrical safety regulator (NIC). Put the question to them, I'm confident I know what their (correct) opinion would be. Seems like some people are trying to convince themselves.

The NIC are the electrical safety regulator. The others mentioned are just trade memberships. Sorry.
The electrical safety council are 'one common voice' that all the above mentioned consult on and then give a joint opinion on. (I think the the NIC were at the fore front of this being created though.)

When you say NIC do you mean NICEIC? Because if you do your wrong in saying they are 'the' electrical safety regulator! The NICEIC is no different to ELECSA or NAPIT in providing Part P Schemes, they just 'big' themselves up a bit more than the others.

If your NIC is different to the NICEIC then you need to provide more info as to who they are!

I've been registered as an approved contractor for six years now. That was one of the main reasons I chose NIC above other above mentioned companies, but you are correct I register my part P's through their Part P scheme.

I was with the NICEIC for a couple of years then I moved, finding another scheme which was more contractor friendly and are there for you not your customers!

The NICEIC don't have a monopoly for being 'the electrical safety regulator'.

exactly as yellowvanman says, the niceic do not have any hold over industry standards, regs etc,if you were an ECA approved contractor it would be akin to niceic approved contractor, what the industry could do with in reality which so many people on here do want is an elecsafe type register/card, part p fees are way over the top at £444 a year.
