Help the plasterer by tucking the cables into the boxes so that he can trowel up the wall with majestic sweeps :)

Hopefully he will not fill up your boxes and show his appreciation by cleaning them out,to show how good a tradesman he is

If he majics the boxes after your efforts, then seek the sparks revenge
P in his buckets and set the skimming plaster off at rocket speed

i find that using a wall chaser works well when finding lost fittings,

difference is, i can plaster. most plasters can barely wire a plug top

having said that the plasteres i use are brilliant, there work is pure art and perfection 2 ov em + a kid can skim a house out in a day and a half. and they clean up after em and empty my boxes out after em.

however the bad ones are one step up from knuckle dragging apes

I suggest you be a bit more cival in your replies on this forum....Read the forum rules and if you cannot adhere to them, then i can remove your account for you....adding little smiles at the end does not make up for that uncalled for rant at another member.

Dave,no problem with receiving a public rebuke. My reply was intended as tongue in cheek. Of course, if you take my reply as uncivil then I immediately apologise for any possible upset to whoever found it upsetting. I value this forum and hope to continue ..... With regard to the plastering I thought that the problem though annoying was typical of the sort of things one had a laugh over? Well, at least that's how I took it. regards, Stewart

I love this part of our trade, if you go over to the plastering web site the spreads are whinging about sparks banging holes in frshly plastered walls, were moaning about spreads plastering over our boxes and im sure that true to form the plumbers are moaning about everthing in the universe

And the war goes on. I recon since the begining of time Electricians and Plasterers have been sworn enemies.

I had it a while back the plasterer cut back all 8 of my lighting circuits leaving about an inch in the box. Wasnt happy but still it gave me a days extra work to sort it out.

A few of my close mates are plasterers gives you something fun to talk about in the pub.

Energise it and wait for hole to appear after its blasted the end of cable off, failing that de-energise it and one of those detectors that also detect metal, it might find your back box.

You should have some idea as you put them in, you know the height and approximate area, try a magnet for back box, if you have one. Otherwise your digging and make sure the owner is there when you do it, so they can see the differculties you are faced with, then they can chase the plasterer, for the repair.

.....depends how long the plaster has had to dry but often the thicker plaster will be darker and therefore locatable if you stand back and look. Otherwise use one of those excellent cable-locating lump hammers mentioned above.

i usually cut a cardboard box and cut out a load of inserts. when the plasterer has finiished he just goes round and takes them out. (or i do) keeps the tails and boxes clean. As for cut outs in the ceiling, the spread doesn't like them cos plaster drips into his eyes , so i make a plan of where cables are located. Has anyone got an idea if you can buy ready made re-usuable box guards to keep boxes clear of plaster.Cheers

yeah, they're called yoozy boxes or something like that. you fit them round the box.
