Been caught out too many times, I always mark the floor boards now for where I have fitted the sockets. Have never lost one since
 
Tap along the wall above the level of the sockets and you might be able to hear the hollow of the capping, i also have a tester that puts a tone on the cable which can. be picked up by a reciever through plaster board and plaster. ÂŁ200 though!

Yes me too a tone and amp set if you adjust it properly it finds cables through plaster,wasn,t 200 quid though think it was about half that.
 
I had this many times, actually not sure I've been to one job where the plasterer didn't lose a few sockets or switches.
The worst was 7 missing, luckily the site manager now marks the floor below each socket and switch so they can be found again.
I charge for finding them and if I get it wrong, they still have to put right the holes that are made.
