Can anyone tell me two separate ways of powering a PLC (I'm guessing that part will be mains supply and battery) but more so the advantages and limitations to both?

As in powering a processor, or the IO?

If this is a homework question, please type out exactly how it is worded, and what your ideas are. I'll point you in the right direction from there.

'Research and describe two different power supply units that could be used to power two different PLC systems. Explain the benefits and limitations of each type.'

Rather unsure on this one as I'm not sure whether its asking for a specific type of unit or it just means things such as a battery.

Thanks

It is rather open to interpretation.

Most PLCs are fed from a DC power supply. Some can be supplied direct from 230VAC. Some need the supply passed through a filter. Some DC power supplies will have a UPS function, using batteries.

I would never suggest powering a PLC directly from a battery, although sure, in theory you could power most with 2 car batteries.
