Hey guys, I have a major problem. I have just run in 40 submains and re powered the communal's in a pre-existing block of flats. The company I'm doing the work for will not pay me until the communal TV system is up and running. That's got nothing to with me. Sadly, they thinks it does. They are claiming that I agreed to fit and install the TV at the same time as the duct work for each flat. They asked me to quote for it. I didn't. They presumed it was in the quote, though written in invisible ink, cause it certainly wasn't.

They owe me thousands. And, I do mean the wrong side of 7k

I have to fit an MATV system. The one block of 40 units is divided into 2 blocks of 20 units, in Southampton. There is two Lucy boards with two landlords supplies available.

Recommended type of Aerial? Boosters?

This is my plan - install two MATV systems for each 20 units. I know that I need to bring the signals to all the units (using satellite cable for this - not shotgun, only digital TV required). My plan is to install two high quality Digital TV Aerials on the roof. Run two cables from it to two 12 way Boosters. This would apply for both sides of the 20 units. All of the cables going to the units as well a from the aerial will be earthed due to the potential earth leakage from each unit. I also need to buy a reasonably priced TV signal meter.

I have to be honest here guys. This is my Christmas money for the family at stake here. My wife does not know. This company is becoming very difficult. I will be paid the final instalment. There's been no money problems before

Any advice is gladly received, I can't afford to have two Christmases in a row with my kids masking their dejection

Please, No screaming preachers about legal action, or get a professional in, I have tried, once they hear the above they are walking away, and won't even advise me

It should be noted that the client has agreed that I locate the new TV outlet in each unit adjacent to the new power supply, this is for the new owners to take it from there.

I dont get where you are coming from,if there was no written specification with TV included, and it is not in the quote from you that they accepted...then why are you doing it?
Cant help thinking you are not telling the entire story here.

I can see the outcome of this being you installed the submains and then the T.V and get paid NOTHING.

Be very wary of whoever you are dealing with, they can't make you install something you haven't even quoted for.

Obviously you are not being entirely truthful,if there was no contract to do the work then you will be well aware that you cannot lose legal proceedings so you would have got legal representative at no expense spared,as the company you are suing would be made to pay the bill.
Why are you even considering being ripped off like this? The small claims court would have this sorted out within 28 days..so that would be in time to avoid a 2nd Christmas eating toast while watching the queens speech :)

Payment within 28 days of the result of the claim. Might take 6 months to get a date for the hearing, maybe longer, and laying out a good few quid when you book it. Seen it......done it, and well worth going down the route.....he'll eat a good christmas dinner in 2015

The way I see this is it all comes down to the wording both parties have used. If they have asked you to quote for all items on (let's call it) list A and you have not itemised exactly what you're quoted for then you're up poo creek without a paddle.
In your situation I'd talk to whoever is responsible at the other end (calmly of course) and explain the situation as you see it, you can then tell this person that the additional work (keep calling it this) is £x and you want written confirmation of their acceptance of the quote.
If they agree then everything is hunky dory again and you can then ask them for a payment on account of this £7k+
I wouldn't bother with talking to any of the monkeys though mate, go straight to the organ grinder.

I would Go with Trevor's advice on this one.
Also in this day and age of everybody wanting every thing for nothing and everybody trying to wriggle out of their responsibilities it is paramount that you produce a precise and accurate quotation for all work to be carried out and that anything not on the quote will be additional and this must be agreed by all parties involved.
An additional thought and not meant to kick you while you're down but maybe ask for some advice when submitting future quotes, because to be going through this for a 2nd Christmas running means either yo are extremely unlucky or you are doing something wrong.

I don't know jack about TV systems but surely someone could advise the man? Seems like a **** situation to be in.

Well obviously the guy has never heard of stage payments or valuations as we more experienced business men call them. I would never install 40 sub-mains without some payment during and the rest straight after, well 30 days max, thats just plain crazy doing a job complete then waiting to get paid.

I may have this upside down, but does this mean they have made all other payments, before imposing this additional work? Embarrassing or otherwise,my friend, you must give us the full story...:icon12:

Serves you right for trusting them.

Why have you got to fit the system?

You are joking? No one can be that stupid!

@Marvo, can you pls move this to the arms and give the OP access? Then the OP can post up his paperwork and we can help properly.

Move a guy with one post into the arms=Are you kidding? might as well just let anyone in.

It's the only way that I can think of that he can share information with enough of us to be useful without it being found by the main contractor. He seems genuinely in a bind, albeit through naivety.

well if it is just for this and then removed after the thread finished fair enough, I see your point.

Another thing he could do is PM you the info you would like to see, thinking about it again, one post just won't be right to gain entry mate, and I am trying to be friendly not difficult.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any more bizarre, the poster of this thread who claimed his Christmas was in ruins has now sent me a pm mainly being abusive but he did add that this 7 k he is owed is only 2 days work and he gets lots of contracts from the firm who are withholding payment..this information makes his original post even more bizarre!! I smell a wind up..not a very convincing one .

Cool, paste the PM up here, marvo may ban him if it is abusive lol

' They are my main contract - work wise. That's something like 75% of my business. so its not really an option to sue them for the sake of a probable misunderstanding, two days labour and 800 in materials. if it means I'm on the next block starting February. Worth an estimated 30k "

*holds head in hands *

So 6,200 in labour for 2 days work, that would mean he had 15 guys pulling those 40 cables in over the 2 days period lol

To be honest though whatever he charged is his business, I have no issue at all with that, the main issue is why the company he does lots of work for held back payment? I have an idea why!!

I'm still not sure why he made the original post saying his Christmas is ruined if hes only lost 2 days work??? Lol

When you hear of a guy saying he is going to install equipment, despite not being contracted to do so, you know something is not quite right somewhere along the line.

The bottom line as far I’m concerned, I don’t believe a word he says.

He sent me a PM, for some reason I don’t think he’s very happy with me.
This is the reply I tried to send but it seems his in box is full. Posting suspended is more than likely.

Good GOD, your are ALL an embarrassment to your own self appreciating reflections. I meant 2 days to run in the TV cables to each unit. NOT, the submain’s, M*RONS. And, whilst I'm still on let me just say THANK YOU to all you self-serving, I AM SO GREAT. Preachers of the finer dark arts of business practice.

What do you do if your main contract year in year out suddenly out of know where thinks you've included something in a quote that you haven't?
BY THE BY ITS A NEW AREA MANAGER I'M DEALING WITH!!!!
I'll sue them for 7K.
Then watch my business dry up.
THAT'S IT GENIUS, EUREKA!!!
No, hang on. Let me get out my DeLorian.
Yes, yes, yes! That’s it! I’ll go back in time to somehow inform myself without the disruption of the time-continuum of staged payments.
What an amazing idea.
Hmm maybe I should take the stage of world of economics, and rock it to its core. Become the Axl Rose of world economics. Then again, I could do my finger painting instead. But, no. I must go forwards

STAGED PAYMENTS- MY GOD I'VE BEEN SO STOOOPID. It was worth 35k in total, the 7k is profit after my wages.

SPARKY JOE I salute you for being the most helpful, I truly mean it

The rest maybe just maybe you should take time out to reflect on just how petty minded you are. And to the star performer TONY aka Grumpy Git. Maybe, just maybe, you should reconsider what’s funny. After all the tears of a clown can be made real. Kn0b

I came here looking for advice, and all I got was the equivalent of drunken lecherous distant cousins of an inbred corn worshipping holier than holy unsightly a s s – The donkeys cousin. Feel free to respond with YOUR imaginative wit that only a halfwit dullard would find amusing that is if they are not already laughing at their own poo. That’s TO everyone except SPARKY JOE who yet again I SALUTE
