shower25

I am installing an 8.5kw shower. the electric is already in place to the pull cord. It just needs connecting from the pull cord to the shower itself. I know it's only a case of connecting 3 wires this end, and 3 wires the other end. In the consumer unit, it has got a B32 fuse(?). The wire, I have been told, is 10mm. Does the B32 have to be changed to a higher one, for example a B38, for the 8.5kw shower? I have been told it does by a sparky, but not sure if it is true, as there was previously a shower installed by the last tenants. I can put a plug on, I can wire a cooker up, so I'm sure I could do this shower myself as it's only Earth Neutral and Live. Is this sparky telling me the truth- do I really need a different fuse? Or is he just trying to get ÂŁ50 out of me? I have no idea of the going rate, & this is cash in hand.

Thanks in advance

even if I have one post OP that does not mean I'm not serious, I have medium the design knowledge that I'll do, I want to do my project on my own apartment with two rooms, I need some information about KNX installations and forums there to be advised not to have answers:'' after you answer that you no longer interested'' the contrary helped back where you most often. I think here are real experts on this forum and i have so much to learn

And what does your question have to do with the OP (original post) about the shower?

Septimiu, I think you might get some help if you started a new thread with your question clearly stated. It is all a little confusing for us at present, as this thread is about the original post and your question, which seems unrelated to the thread, has just popped up in the middle of it. Others won't see it here so try starting a new thread to get your query answered.

This is only my opinion but in this instance I do not believe it is a "Like" for "Like" replacement.

Even if the unit was identical to what was fitted previously the fact that the protective device be replaced for one with a higher rating means that "IT IS NOTIFIABLE"!!! (and possibly wasn't fitted correctly first time around?????)

To the OP, for peace of mind please get an electrician to carry out this work for you. They will first ensure that the cable is fit for continued use and protect it with a device that will protect the cable. An RCD will also be added providing you with additional protection for you and your family. Further tests will be conducted and a Certificate provided with schedule of test results and notification to Local Authority Building Control.

The above will most definitely relieve you of far more than ÂŁ50 but at least you'll know that the shower will be safe. Electricity and Water are fantastic to use.... Just NOT TOGETHER!
