I'm a bit lost here!

Your all jumping the gun based on the small amount of info I've provided, and judging me when you don't even know me!

The client understands that I'm not qualified, although I am doing very well at college and am about to finish my C&G 2356 L2. He initially asked me to just have a look and see if I could fix it, by the sounds of the problem his MCB needed flicking back on, but he didnt want to go near the CU, if not, no worries, he'l get someone else. But I have found the problem and I can fix it. I'm charging him next to nothing, enough to cover my petrol, materials and beer money!

The electrics are unsafe as they are, I'm not going to just leave it like that! My guess is a qualified sparky wired it up, and didn't use adequate mechanical protection of the cable, as he wanted to get down the pub quicker or save a trip down the electrical shop. The regs say you are supposed to use a metal plate on studs/joists etc. that have cables passing through to prevent things like this happening.

I'm fixing the problem! And I mean, it's not like I'm wiring up a whole kitchen with a massive oven and an indoor heated swimming pool room with a Jacuzzi! Not saying I couldn't do it, but i wouldn't, it's out of my league!

I have been working with lighting circuits non stop for nearly a year on my course!

All I'm doing is installing one length of 1.5mm2 2core+cpc from the CU, to a ceiling rose! Not exactly rocket science. I terminate neatly and correctly!

I honestly give up trying to explain myself, and furthermore, why should I?! It's fun to watch you all bicker about it anyway! :)

Maybe you have all ran out of work and are jealous that I've got some lol

If you want to have a go at someone, get in touch with the carpet fitter or the previous spark, as if it weren't for them I wouldn't be here asking for advice in the first place!

Jumping the gun no just fed up trying to read your mind when if you had given more information we could have helped you quicker.

As for you getting off on us bickering Well yep keep that attitude up and you will end up talking to yourself or with someone at the same level as you giving you advise ie the blind leading the blind.

And before you come back with a witty retort please be advised I don't have an ego to bruise I don't get off slagging people off but I do expect basic standards such as thankyou. Do me a favour if you are going to spit the dummy out take a pause before you do so if not please feel free to bawl away cos nobody is listening

edit
Sorry I forgot to add grow up

I know I know! I thought the job was going to be as simple as flicking the MCB back on or changing a bulb as it sounded that simple on the phone! I'm a labourer not an electrician, this is the third electrical job I've ever undertaken. I've got two kids to feed so can't say no to work, and feel confident enough to sort it. If anything, I will try everything I can without IR test and if it comes down to it I will purchase or at least borrow a meter to get the job done.

I know what your saying, but he's paid me and the problem seemed solved! I will look bad and potentially loose a future customer if I back out now, plus end up out of pocket.

Holy **** Im a labourer not a spark and dont own test gear yet im happy if things work yet unable to test..

And yes a old thread but come on pal... Your latest one with this causes a tad for conern

This job got sorted in the end and I used a pal's test gear to confirm it was safe. I now own my own test gear and didn't get a chance to fully investigate at my uncles in the garden, I was working there all day and when it came to testing I didn't get to properly investigate the problem as he said to leave it for another day, I'm going back to carry out proper tests and to fully investigate the problem.

Crossed my mind a few times OT,been tempted to reply reference the title at the top of the page, the place is filling up with chancers, mates wannabees etc.
I spoke up on one occasion a few months back on a thread where some mate (yet another one) was looking for work and my post was promptly removed.
Is it not the case also that one of the moderators on here is not a qualified spark?
Is it E54? :D

I have no problem with people wanting to learn thats fine but we are now being used as some sort of "Ask Jeeves" type system plus my concern with regards to this post is this forum is "remotely" coaching someone who could either injure or kill himself or worst the tenant of the property . Thing is I would not go to a job without being tooled up yet I am amazed these types of posts are getting advice when the OP has said yep I have a ÂŁ15 multimeter and I am in London ???
I've always been amazed at what people get away with on this forum compared to others I follow (non electrical), but at the end of the day it is up to the moderators and owners of the forum to set and police the rules as to what can and can't be said?
