As said previouslly, test the circuit again and compare the readings alongside the bgb to make sure they're all sound.

Tighten every possible connection you can find - this includes the actual lamp in the holder. It could be that on one of the L-N in the chockblock that you've got the screw fastened down on the sheath and thus not properly making contact with the actual copper.

Sounds like it's going to be a complete ballache to find.

Another little point - the one thats baffling me the most, is that you say ALL the lights flicker - i don't suppose you've though about a potential voltage spike have you? I mean it's a long short, but having so many loose connections you'd think would be a long shot aswell.

All i can say is, best of luck and i hope you find the cause.

Look I'll be honest with you, I don't have a meter that can carry out IR test, I only have a continuity/voltage meter and it's only a cheap one!

If it failed an IR test would it mean a complete rewire of light circuit?

I can't see it being a loose termination unless its between the board and the first light, because if the loose connection was somewhere else the first light would still work, as all others are spurred/looped from that one! Or am I wrong?

You are correct, when you get there if the lights are not working you need to carry out a voltage test at each light, across, L-N, L-CPC and N-CPC.

It could take several visits/hours to resolve.

Ok, what readings should I expect to see? 230v across L-N and nothing across the others?

are you for real 230v .....???? PMSL read the name 'electricians forum' go google and get one before you kill someone or your self

You shouldnt be taking money from people when you really dont have a clue what you are doing.
If you cant resolve a minor domestic fault on your own you shouldnt be allowed to work alone.
Ask your customer to call a real spark and go give them their money back.

Boydy

your out of your depth what kind of spark are you no meters only a cheap one, leave it alone get the real on the job
Leave it out! Tell me something I don't know. The guy is a friend of my Dads and is hoping to save some money and help me gain some well needed experience. I'm broke, hence the reason I'm at college getting distinctions and trying my best to learn as much as I can while I can! If you've got nothing helpful to say don't bother at all!

Please don't insult someone trying to learn, they have already stated he is at college and learning, on the job experience is vital to learning this trade. So if you don't have something constructive to add to the thread then I suggest you dont reply.

##Yes 230v across L-E and L-N, 0v across N-E this will then verify if there is a break in the cable or not.

Leave him be, he is learning and just stated who the job is for, so before attacking someone at least learn about them.

OK cry cry .... 230 volt questions from some one who has distinctions.... step back go to bed look at it tomorrow all will seem clear, IF you qualify as a spark (good luck sincerely) you wont ever forget asking this one.

And you obviously know everything. This is a forum to ask questions on not to be belittled on. Think you need to change your attitude and give people a chance.
