I have been selected to take part in an online forum by the IET about the state of the industry. If you have anything you wish to raise then please detail them in BULLET FORM. I will then raise these in the forum on Wednesday evening.

Please no long narrative rants, just succinct bullet points.

Thanks, and lets hope this can change things!

hi mate. first off, can you change your humorous tag at the bottom of your page as mussels live on the ocean floor and 'muscles' control bodily function!

I think that your point may be better raised with the Electrical Safety Council, but I will take note, thanks for the chat earlier

Your the first to notice the miss spelling in my forum signature, now changed. (you could have pm'ed me)

The electrical safety council is a charitable organization funded through government so they don't have the money to spend on public awareness. The IET do have the funds and if a national register of electricians were established with them, they would have the money to advertise.

To my mind, the OSG if followed should result in an installation that complies with BS7671.
Not as in the case with the under sized earth conductor, one that not only fails to comply with BS7671, but one which the DNOs would likely refuse to connect.

Totally agree with you mate. I was really referring to the fact that there are many additional things in the OSG which are only mentioned in the Building regs.
As far as DNO connections go, I keep hearing how they are connecting people up with no earth present at all!

ESC , NICEIC,NAPIT,IET,ELESCA,SELECT,ECT,ECT,ECT, therein lies the majority of problems to many orginisations all interpriting the way industry should go forward IMHO we should have a similar scheme to GASSAFE with ONE regulatory body ONE set of rules ONE set of qualifications ONE point of contact not only for electricians but for consumers to raise complaints,

^^ Totally agree ^^ (And I'm not working fully in the industry yet!)

Also can you ask why do they treat us as fools because they are not having this discussion because they feel like it nope in my opinion they know we the trade are not happy and as they say in the movies are trying to head us off at the path someone told me that this was a management ploy where they would have a "review" meeting then so that they could prepare for any akward questions and to try and defuse any rumbling in the rank.

So a word of warning here do not allow them to manage you and then get either selective or water down any questions you submit because they will play politics on this you can be sure. They are not in it to help us or the trade they are in it for themselves but right now they think we are all moaners instead of thinking well these guys have a point with numerous Schemes and no logical planning with regards to any changes
