Pluggit

Does such a thing exist? Instead of the cable coming out the back of the plug, it comes out the front? Basically I have a wall socket and need to run an extension lead vertically up, as I HATE unsightly cables I want to try and do it neatly but of course a normal plug would need to run the cable down first before going up.

So does such a thing exist? Have tried searching but not been successful, perhaps not knowing what to search for?

Alternatively, some kind of rotating plug? I guess as a last resort I can just rewire the wall socket and turn it around, but it's a double socket and I'm not overly keen on doing that.

Thanks! Love the forum, been a long time lurker.

Does such a thing exist?

No, you won't find it I'm afraid, BS1363-1 states...

"19.1 The entry of the flexible cord shall be between the current-carrying pins at the side of the plug opposite the earth pin."

...so it wouldn't be allowed to come out of the plug's 'top'.

Fit a continental socket...and plug

the cable comes out from the plug, between the L and N, and "opposite" the E...

ad can be inserted either way up...

so many choices...
cable down
cable up
even cable straight out horizontally...
but of course, no fuse in the plug!

It's a great system! but needs facility to fuse at the plug...
however, not many people die in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Greece etc every day because of the lack of the fuse...yes, they fuse at the CU, they use radial circuits, and plenty of them...but they can plug in their plugs either way up...flex up. flex down, flex straight out...

Not a patch safety-wise on our wonderful sockets, but then on the continent if you see a child trying to stick a pin into a socket, you can smack them, without being sent to prison...

but it's a double socket and I'm not overly keen on doing that.

You could fit a double gang euro module plate and two 13a socket modules, one turned upside down. (they click in either way up)
