Installing a showe.r shower is through the wall from consumer unit. can I install the shower switch next to consumer unit or do I have to install the shower switch outside the bathroom door.

Also i am going to put the mcb in a 4 way box which will have a double pole main switch will I have to fit a double pole shower switch as well as the main switch in the 4 way box

Doesn't have to be pull cord inside bathroom, fitted loads of wall switches outside bathrooms for shower. Regarding original post I think it would be better to have the switch outside the bathroom or inside on a pull cord switch not what you have suggested. Just my opinion though. :)

I was sure I'd read or heard somewhere that the isolator should be readily accessible as with a motor, but the only thing I can find that comes close to a reg is in the guide to the building regs, p65:
"It is normal practice to provide an isolation switch within the bathroom. The switch must be installed outside zones 0,1 and 2 although the cord of cord operated switches may reach into zones 1 or 2",
which indicates while putting the isolator in a cupboard may be unconventional, it is not forbidden.
