At a house viewing I saw a dozen electric radiators connected mainly by plugs into wall sockets, one or two (in bathrooms) connected to fused spurs. I calculated nearly 14Kw and I'm given to understand all these rads are connected to either of two ring mains with 32A breakers.

A quick look at the consumer unit showed all the powerful stuff on dedicated circuits, apart from washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, steam oven, so these must be plugged into one or other of the two ring mains. There was no dedicated circuit for the electric rads.

I know you can have unlimited sockets for a floor area > 100m2, but I would have thought all those rads on a cold winter's day would cause tripping? I'm looking at having to re-wire if I go ahead with the house, unless anyone disagrees?

Cheers

Next issue - even in this weather, with electric heaters on a lot, no tripping at all. But - we are looking at heating the pool, which would take at least 15Kw elec heater (no gas/oil). There is a 60a supply (single phase) to pool house which drives pump and heat exchanger (which apparently only heats pool sufficiently on a few (hot) days of year).

House has 100a supply, pretty heavily used as heating is electric. Any thoughts as to solution? How feasible to add a 3-phase supply or convert to? Cheers

You need to contact your electricity supplier, would be quite expensive I would imagine.

Like many things, it depends.
There may already be a 3P supply there with only one phase made available. Or the 3P may just go past your front door.
Or the 3P is half a mile away.
Each have their own feasability challenges and costs.
The only solution is to ask your DNO to do a survey and give you a price.

Anything that draws 15Kw from a domestic single phase supply cannot be a good idea ! What about a LPG boiler ?
Yes, take your point - I've lodged an enquiry with Power Networks as to feasibility. No I hadn't thought of LPG boiler - funnily enough there was an old one here when we moved in which wasn't in use and we had it removed. Issue here really is the space required for tanks/boiler, but it's worth costing out I guess - thanks.
