power over long distances

Hello all,

Been asked to look at a project involving running power to CCTV cameras but over stupidly long distances, just wondering whether anyone on here had any experience with such things that could maybe help me out. And by long distances I mean up too 1 mile!!

Agree with Brightspark, you may as well ask the chemist or the local butcher, totally pointless.

It did have inspection pits ( all be it only two ) , but the socket fronts and balled up cable were blocking else where along the duct .

What else (electrical) is there down this track of yours? Could you use existing supplies closer to the cameras? Is there any more important information you haven't told us yet?

looking at running cat 6 with Active Balun transmitter/Receiver each end, aparently (although ive never used them) there good for up too 2000m!

running a signal cable with a power conductor you risk inductive crosstalk even if using a shielded data cabling and 1 mile is a lot of area.
I would seriously consider using fiber-optic for data and solar/hydrogen cells as power source at each camera
this would be a more reliable setup in the long run

Is this 1 mile course anything to do with drag hunting, if so they change the course each time. You might want to think about Radio remote (expensive) but at least you can get the whole race filmed and viewed at the same time.
