price work rewires

hey guys

just want to ask are those one day rewires worth it in terms of money...they seem pretty good to be honest.. yes i know ur a tool and the rest of it.

but like 550 for 1 bed

could be split like this

2 sparks 250 each

mate/labourer 50 quid

and the job can be done in one day. whats ur thoughts i dont mind working extra hours even 10 hours is fine

Me and a mate tried doing rewires in a day before and couldn't do it. Someone inboxed me on here looking to pay 600 per flat, chased in!!
Decent homes firms have teams of 4 or 5 blokes, mostly European. Testing is done afterwards by someone else.

I took pride in my surface work, clipping cables was the norm, thanx for white t&e when you could get it. ( no anymore)

You can still get it but at almost double the price of grey, it's also time consuming painting all the grey clips with Tippex.:wink5:

those rates they will be housing association rates, obviously the main contractor you working for will be charging more (but also supplying materials. sadly rates for housing associations are generally poor but they come usually with a large package of work, which is generally swings and roundabouts on jobs that are good earners and those that aren't. Sadly fully trunked flats (no extra for the trunked bit) are at the bottom of the scale and are going to be the rubbish ones.

To make money on Housing association works you need to be a polished rewire crew.

As I said before My spark and apprentice have just finished one today 4 days fully trunked/tested/making good.

I'll be snagging it in the next week, as well as the housing association and the NIC, any snags my spark will be returning as part of his price to rectify. But I doubt there will be any.

Could it have been done quicker maybe, but flooding a 1 bed flat with people is only going to end in a mess..... 2 guys taking what they need. They don't often do FULLY trunked jobs so they where not looking forward to it and knew they were not doing to make loads on it, but they will have earned a fair day rate even at 4 days.

It does seem that House bashing Electricians are getting a raw deal these days.
Whilst regulations are changing to a point that's frankly becoming ridiculous, none of the people or organisations that introduce these new rules and regs ever think of financial implications to the man in the field or help in any way to promote these changes so as to make the general public aware of what there paying for and why.
Its left to the man in the field (us) to try and explain through the suspicious looks and glances why for a properly compliant job a price of £--- is required.
AM 3 is yet another thorn in the side of small companies or 1 man bands trying to make a profit.
And I make no apologise for using the word profit because we are registered electricians not a ruddy registered charity.
Sure you want to do a good job and do it correctly.
But competing with desperado’s, suspicious customers, and the out of touch with reality governing bodies in there ivory towers, who bring in there wonder courses and allow virtually any one to slap there stickers on the side of there vans, is making the trade a difficult one to gleam a decent living from these days.

Any self respectable sparks will find work even in dire times! Any self respecting spark would reconsider same day rewires! Glad I'm working in Australia where the worker gets looked after!

that is the thing becoming multiskilled is useful for a one man band starting out as it helps fill in the gaps when there starting

I dunno, i like to think of myself as pretty self respecting, but i would never sell my labour that cheap, i would rather work in tescos if i had no other option

I think you will end up trying to explain what you want him to do most of the day and that's what happens when you pay peanuts you get monkeys. only joking lad that was just an example off course i would not pay someone 50 quid...100 quid will do for the labourer and 200 quid in the sparks pockets... theres no mentioning of testing
