10 downlighters in 2 hours?? ....£10 kits..... i feel a call back coming! i spend my whole life replacing those 'quality' products... oh well its extra work

:)

So sarcastic sometimes, Look, what I am saying is if you have ended up with an easy ceiling, who knows it could be a first floor with an easy open loft above , 10 in 2 hours not a problem or 10 in 3 hours the profit is still substantial as seen by the client.

And £10 per kit thats about right for an Aurora LV kit, if you are paying more than that I would have a word with your supplier unless of course you dont call Aurora reasonable quality.

lets say with the previous example.. 3 hours all in for 10 dL's the question was how do i price this work? if you have to give a price then fixed price per item is the best way.. i'm saying give a flat rate for ALL down lighters as some take a longer than others as we know...

if you know for sure that you have a n VV easy ceiling like the example then allow a small figure like £10 - £12 labour per downlighter + materials per DL

as for the £10 kits? im not suggesting that aurora DLS and TX's are not average quality..but they are £ 10 for a reason and you get what you pay for in this game and anyway i certainly would not pass that price on to the customer with no mark up! that price is for the contractor..not for the end user who should pay retail prices.. more proifit margin down the drain

i justify my pricing at £40 per Downlighter ...all materials are customer prices not what i pay

Fitting £ 5.00 ( aurora / jcc standard )
Osram HTM70 transformer £ 10.00 ( high quality )
lamp £ 2.00
fire hood £ 10.00
labour per DL £ 20

total £ 37 this is what the market expects to pay for a downlighter (easy or difficult to fit ) so whay cut costs?

We have never had a problem with Aurora and I think you will fine that the majority of wholesalers now stock them as a good fitting, there are more expensive fittings out there, reggiani, Igguzini, the list goes on and you can pay as much as you want to.
We have also used either Aurora or Fox transformer for the last few years and cannot remember the last time we replaced one.
I have been in touch with my wholesalers and a fire rated light (so no need for the fire hood) complete with transformer and lampis just under a tenner for a fixed and £12 for an adjustable.
I dont have a problem with your cost of £45 per light fitting installed, its not that different from my own cost but there are ways of not scaring the s**t out of your client when you present the invoice.
it is generally a lot easier to justify this cost on a commercial installation as it is not a persons "own" money.
Hope that helps.

Why do you find it so necessary to dis everything I have said? You install fire hoods, I install fire proof fittings, same end result, whats the problem? Hoods have never been the easiest things to get in and stay in place but everyone to their own.

I think you'd probably lose the job at "£350 for 10" but "I can fit lights at £35 each how many do you want me to install" might be a better approach.
