Everybody in the trade have had part P shoved down their throats for the past few years yet Ive seen very little in the meadia making the general public aware of the current reg's
Why is it anybody can walk into a shed and purchase a C.U., meter tails, OPD's etc which under part P are all notifiable.
Most of the domestic clients I speak to have never heard of part P

I'll amend that just got a call from someone specifically looking for part p - well well well

I got Part P qualified sign written onto the van. Its a good talking point as I am always asked "Whats that"

It appears it may be changing the competent person schemes are being forced to advestise it for public awareness. This came from another thread a while back.

Part P building regs applicable in england and wales , comes under building standards regulations in scotland

On a serious note I totally agree.

It’s bad enough the public haven’t heard of it, then you walk in to a DIY shop (Orange uniforms) and they’re (diy shop staff) giving a DIY’er advice on a CU change. Because they’ve “got them (Wylex boards for £86) on offer, so it's an ideal time to udgrade”

I really wanted to say something walked past about four times and bottled it was too annoyed.

The consumer unit change I did yesterday… Makes me wonder why I should bother filling out the EIC and registering it via BRC when Joe Bloggs don’t bother.

The shed's should at least have to display notice's stating the regulations
Placed somewhere conspicuos in 3m letters

Not wishing to appear to side with the sheds, but how many of you have gone into a wholesaler that didn't know you, order a CU and all the bits and then been asked if you are part p or told that a cu change is notifiable? Not many, I suspect!!

Very true but wholesalers don't give advice or give .' how to do it' info sheets away plus the fact the items are not on display

Most of us know our suppliers well... Normally on first name terms.
I don’t think I’ve ever brought a CU from a wholesaler I didn’t know.

Although I did go in to my “not local” wholesalers as was told Proteus are better than Crabtree.

Out of curiosity i've just phoned my local shed asking about consumer units, I was told they have an extensive range and they had an in store 'expert ' that could give me help and information.
Got my son to phone local wholesaler (not mine) asking for advice and he was told to contact registered contractor
