hi guys,

as a old time spark thats been at it 30 years i picked up the proffesional electricians mag in the wholesalers, got quite a shock when i read about the costs involved in pv one guy had wrote in saying he had laid out ÂŁ1000 s of pounds just to get is msc accreditation and then says he sees he will be paying lots of dosh every year just to keep is mcs, i have laid out a few grand fitting one on my own property so i can get my mcs, lets hope its money well spent any thoughts

Sure its money well spent. The demand for PV is increasing at a rapid rate. A few good jobs will see a return on your investment. A lot of your competition will be from the larger firms with high overheads so you shouldn`t have to much trouble with a sensible quote. Advice would be to concentrate on the domestic and not chase the big tenders for council and schools. The tenders are done in phases and the criteria to meet is intense. I know a few newly certified companies that are trying to run before they can walk. They are wasting time and money chasing the big kill they dont stand a chance of getting. Best of luck.

I know the guy that wrote the letter well, he subbed for me on my last install, theres nothing in his letter that is untrue, he was just trying to ballance all the hype that appears in the PE every month that its a gravy train, its getting increasingly competative out there now, I think most sparks will enter as subbies, the cash flow issue wasent mentioned and thats a major hurdle, ÂŁ20k is required as an overdraft in my experience.

just a thought why dont the power companies like edf ssp etc pay the home owner to let them install pv on there roofs for free,, be great way to get the countries carbon foot print down, be like millions little power stations all over the land,,
